The Climate tool displays historical climate data for a given location.

## Temperature
The historical high and low temperatures are displayed at the top of the screen for the selected date. The chart also displays high temperatures as a red line and the low temperatures as a blue line.

The freezing point is displayed in the bottom portion of the chart as a filled area.

## Changing the date
To change the date, you can tap the calendar icon above the chart and select a date. Additionally, you can use the arrows to move to the next/previous date or long press the calendar to quickly jump to today's date.

Tapping on one of the lines on the chart will also change the date to the point you tapped.

## Changing the location
By default, your current location is used. If you want to change this, enter a new location in the input field below the chart. You can also change the elevation using the elevation input field.

## Accuracy
Climate normals are based on the 30-year average of the historical data and indicate what the weather usually is. The actual values may differ for a variety of reasons but should remain fairly close to the historical values. Large differences are normally due to a storm or other weather event.

Historic temperatures are estimated using a custom 30-year "climate normal" model derived from the NASA Global Modeling and Assimilation Office - MERRA-2 data (1991 - 2020).

The Notes tool can be used to write down notes for offline access.

## Create or edit a note
To create, view or edit a note:

1. Press the '+' button in the bottom-right corner to create a note, or tap an existing one in the list.
2. You can edit the title and/or content of the note.
3. Press the checkmark button in the bottom-right corner to save.

## Delete a note
To delete a note:

1. Tap the menu icon on the right side of the note in the list.
2. Press 'Delete'.

## Share a note (QR code)
To share a note as a QR code:

1. Tap the menu icon on the right side of the note in the list.
2. Press 'QR code'.
3. Scan the QR code with another device to import the note, or take a screenshot for later use.

Note: The QR code can only transfer the first 1000 characters of a note.

## Quick action

The Turn Back tool can be used to alert you when to turn back on a hike to return at a specific time.

## Return time
You can set the return time by clicking the input field and selecting a time from the time picker. The return time is the time that you want to return back to your current location if you start the hike now.

Once the return time has been set, an alert will be displayed a little before halfway through the hike to remind you to turn back if you want to return on time. The time until the turn back time is displayed at the top of the screen.

### Return before dark
If you click the "Return before dark" button, the return time will be set to sunset. This is useful if you want to make sure you return before it gets dark.

## Cancel the alert
You can cancel the alert by clicking the "Cancel" button at the bottom of the screen. This will clear the return time and the alert.

## Testing flashlight beam distance
To measure a flashlight's beam distance:

2. Place your phone on the floor, screen up.

# Estimating temperature
To estimate the temperature at another elevation, you need to know your current elevation and the current temperature, as well as the elevation at which you want to estimate the temperature.
